Pre Season Match Information

Pre-season matches are an important part of preparing our teams for the season ahead. To ensure player safety, insurance coverage and compliance with Football Canterbury requirements, all pre-season matches must be approved through Ashfield Pirates FC and played under the appropriate sanctioning process.

Pre-Season Matches

Ashfield Pirates FC supports pre-season trial matches as an important part of team preparation. To ensure the safety of players and compliance with governing bodies, all pre-season matches must be sanctioned through Football Canterbury.

Only players who are registered with Ashfield Pirates FC are permitted to participate in pre-season matches. Insurance coverage applies only to registered players and only for matches and training sessions that have been formally approved. Any matches or training conducted outside these requirements may result in no insurance cover in the event of injury.

Teams must also ensure that all training and matches take place on approved grounds. Training or playing on non-approved venues can be unsafe due to unknown ground conditions and may void insurance cover.

Internal Matches

(Against Football Canterbury–affiliated clubs)

Internal pre-season matches are games played against clubs that are affiliated with Football Canterbury.

For these matches, Ashfield Pirates FC requires teams to submit an Internal Pre-Season Match Request Form. This allows the club to coordinate approvals, confirm insurance coverage and ensure compliance with Football Canterbury requirements.

Requests must be submitted no later than 7 days before the proposed match date.

External Matches

(Against clubs outside Football Canterbury)

Pre-season matches against clubs outside the Football Canterbury Association require additional approvals and coordination between associations.

If Ashfield Pirates FC is hosting the match, the required Out of Association Trial Game approval process will be managed through Football Canterbury once the relevant details are provided. These approvals can take time, so requests must be lodged at least 7 days prior to the match.

  • Players are not insured if a match is not sanctioned

  • Only registered players may participate

  • Grounds must be approved for use

  • Failure to follow these processes may result in insurance claims being declined

  • All teams wishing to play pre-season matches must complete the Pre-Season Match Request Form so the club can manage approvals and confirmations on your behalf.
